About the Band of Distinction

The Odessa Band of Distinction has earned countless awards over its storied history.  The marching band has been Grand Champion 15 times in the past 8 years including retiring the Traveling Trophy as Grand Champion of Carrollton Band Day 2005-2007.  The Band has consistently placed at Bands of America (“BOA”) competitions over the past several years, including the Indianapolis Regional Class A Champion in 2006.  In 2013, the band was the 4A Champion at the Blue Springs Invitational and continues to win accolades for their outstanding color guard.

Odessa’s Winter Guard is the first Missouri high school to be a two-time WGI Finalist in Dayton, Ohio at WGI’s World Championships.  The Winter Guard has been a Mid Continent Color Guard Association (MCCGA) champion 4 of the last 8 years and has been a medalist for 8 of the last 9 seasons.  The Odessa Middle School Winter Guard has been an MCCGA Champion for 7 of the last 9 years, including six consecutive years from 2007-2012.

The Odessa Percussion Ensemble will enter its 8th year of MCCGA membership.  The ensemble entered MCCGA in Percussion Scholastic Regional Class and finished 4th in Championships in 2006 and 2011 and was a Finalist in 2012.  In 2007 and 2008 they competed in Concert Class, winning that division both years.

The Symphonic Band and Concert Band have performed at the MMEA Convention, the Dixie Classic Music Festival in Chicago, IL, and represented the state of Missouri in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, DC in July of 2005.  Both bands have consistently been awarded Superior Ratings at District and State level and have had many individual musicians participate in District and other Honor Band opportunities.

The band would like to thank our Band Boosters, parent and community supporters, amazing prop crew, seamstresses, local businesses and all other avid followers.
