Odessa High School Band Booster Club
Minutes of the August 15, 2005 Meeting of the Odessa High School Band Boosters
Meeting was called to order by President Jim Pennington at 7:00 p.m. in the OHS Band Room.  22 people were present.
Laura Osborn, Recording Secretary, read the minutes.  Corrections were made and minutes were accepted.
Pam Raffurty, Corresponding Secretary, reported that thank you certificates were still being sent out to chaperones and other contributors to the Washington D.C. trip.  She read a thank you card from the Turner family, and a letter from Anthony Maiello.
Treasurer, Rick Walker, reported the following account balances:
  D.C. account - $18,757.06
  Operating account - $5,440.44
  Money Market account - $8,673.55
  Old Business
Treasurer, Rick Walker, announced the fact that we need to rename the D.C. account or close it out, based on what ever is decided about the remainder of the money.  Ken Hansen stated that he would like to see the money stay there for upcoming trips the band will be taking and renaming the account the Trip Account.  Darrell Bell suggested letting the students make the decision as to whether the money stays in the account or is distributed amongst those who went on the D.C. trip.  He mentioned that a few parents were under the impression that any extra money would be reimbursed.  Ken and Rick stated that any student who had done fundraising and had an excess in their account had the option to be reimbursed and Rick stated that he had given back several reimbursements.  Motion was made by Becky Cowman to leave the money where it is, and rename the account "Trip Account."  It was seconded by Tracey Bebout.  Motion passed.  Ken told everyone that if anyone had a problem with that decision to come talk to him about it.
Joe Smith reported that there was still ad space in the football program for $30.00 each.
Thanks to all parents who provided refreshments during Marching Band Camp, August 1st through 9th.  It was greatly appreciated.
  New Business
Positions of Fundraising Chair and Hospitality Chair are being fulfilled by Tracey Bebout.  We need volunteers for 3rd quarter snacks during football season, also volunteers to help with lunches during marching competitions, and most probably, a dinner for the Missouri Western Marching Festival on October 11th.  See Tracey Bebout.
Need Pit Crew volunteers to help move equipment.  Also need use of a Gator or 4-wheeler.
Band shirts are available for purchase now at $15.00 each.  While supplies last - No reorders.  See Ken Hansen.
Odessa Marching Invitational - Still need lots of volunteers, especially parade, bus parking, visitor parking and concessions.  Sign up sheets were passed around.  Danese Wildschuetz asked if there could be a designated "IN ONLY" and "OUT ONLY" at the gate to help ease congestion this year.  We still need Band Ambassadors for each band.  Meet them when they arrive and stay with them or in touch with them throughout the day.  Answer any questions they have and help make sure they get to where they need to be on time. FAQ's include 1) Where's the restrooms? 2) Where can we go to warm up? And 3) Where is the parade going to be?
Lexington Regional Hospital is donating supplies for the first aid tent.  Need to send a thank you.
Correction was made to the '05-'06 Dates to Remember.  Thursday night practices will be from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.
Kitco is paying for both pages of the football program - need band roster.
Bulldog Storage has provided a storage unit for the band at no charge for as long as we need it.  Need to send a thank you.
  DIRECTOR'S CORNER
In response to a question about the things that were wet or damaged when the roof leaked, Ken stated that the uniforms that got wet were sent out the next day for dry cleaning and should be handed out by the end of August.  New lights were installed in three closets.
  Ken reported on upcoming dates:
August 30th - Meet the Band Night at the big field.  He is thinking about a small fundraiser where, for a small donation, anyone can march behind a band student to see what it's like to be in their shoes.
September 24th - Carrollton Band Day - no indoor guard this year.
Bands of America - schedule states October 21st - 22nd.  We have a home football game on that Friday night, so the band will only be there on the 22nd.  Our time slot is between 1 - 3 p.m.  Ken would like the band students to be able to watch the finals, stay overnight, and then do some sightseeing and come home on Sunday, October 23rd.
For anyone taking the ACT in Wentzville on Saturday, October 21, arrangements will try to be made.  Contact Mr. Hansen if you will be taking the ACT on that day.
October 29th - JAMA Marching Festival at Blue Springs South will be the last festival of the season.
November 12th - District Band auditions. Ken would like to see students involved with lessons early to be better prepared.
We will have Winterguard and Winter Drumline this year.
Ken feels that the band is ready for higher levels of competition.  This is possibly the last year we will go to Carrollton Band Day.
Joe Smith moved to adjourn and Tracey Bebout seconded.  Meeting adjourned at 8:36 p.m.
  Respectfully submitted,
  Laura Osborn, Recording Secretary
