Odessa Band of Distinction Honored at Bands of America |

Press Release On Saturday, October 22, the Odessa High School Band of Distinction competed at the Bands Of America Super-Regional Championship. The band received second place among all bands in the Class A division of this competition, and received a Division II rating for their performance. The competition, held in the Edward Jones Dome, included 52 of the finest high school bands from eleven states, including Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Of the eighteen Missouri high school bands in the competition, only Odessa placed amongst the top bands for our region. The band is directed by Ken Hansen and assistant director Kirby Spayde, with assistance from Kim Kras and Chris Putnam. Color Guard is under the direction of Lindsay Hansen. The band's program, Chase For Excellence, features the music of trumpeter Bill Chase. The field show includes solos by Bert Dothage (saxophone), Chris Reynolds (trombone), Ethan Anglemyer (trumpet), Marshall Danner (trumpet), Alex Vaughn (trumpet), and Lucas Watson (trumpet). It also includes a sextet consisting of Jay Whitsitt, Chris Short, Marshall Danner, Alex Vaughn, Jacob Pennington, and Niall Pennington. The next competition for the band will be on October 29 at the JAMA Regional Marching Festival at Blue Springs South High School. This will be the final competition of their marching season.
