Odessa Band of Distinction Grand Champions Again |
2005 Carrollton Band Day |
On Saturday, October 24, 2005, the Odessa High School Band of Distinction competed at the Carrollton Band Day and received the Grand Champion trophy (for classes 4A through 6A). This award had special meaning to the seniors in the band - the last time Odessa was Grand Champion at Carrollton was in 2002, when they were freshmen. The band received first place among 4A schools for their Field and Parade performances. They also were awarded a trophy Best Field Auxiliary on the Field. Color Guard is under the direction of Lindsay Hansen. Over 50 schools competed this year at Carrollton including Oak Grove, Warrensburg, Blue Springs South, Smith-Cotton, Hickman Mills, and Center in Kansas City.
Their winning program, Chase For Excellence, features the music of trumpeter Bill Chase. The field show includes solos by multiple members of the Band of Distinction. The Band of Distinction will perform in exhibition at the second annual Odessa Marching Invitational, which will be held on Saturday, October 1. They will march in the parade in the morning, and will perform their field show at the end of the festival. The Invitational is open to the public - admission for the field shows will be $4 for adults, $2 for children. In addition, the 8th Grade Band took 1st place in Music for their parade performance and third overall. Photos courtesy of Valerie Pennington.
